I'm expanding on my eggshell paintings. A classmate gave me Araucana chicken eggshells last semester to try out which sparked the idea of experimenting with MANY MANY other eggshells. So thankfully Amazon exists, I ordered a beautiful emu egg and a dozen quail eggs. Quail eggs can be found in some grocery stores and a friend just informed me that the Whole Foods in Tribeca carries ostrich eggs!

Eggshelled Skateboard Deck

My boyfriend's christmas present,

acrylic and eggshell on a blank canadian maple deck, varnished with a spray.
Originally I was thinking a paint on varnish but the guy at Home Depot was right, spray is way easier and doesn't leave paintbrush lines. Plus it dries fast.

I'll update with a clear final picture and details soon.

Giant Puppets Show

I've been taking an Arts & Crafts course at Queens College this semester and our final is a performance at the Rubens Museum in Manhattan. I'll be playing a monkey, here's a photo of my giant mask:

Zappos Stop Motion

This past week, I had the pleasure of working with some friends on a stop motion commercial for a Zappos contest. We used a program that I hadn't worked with before called Adobe OnLocation which creates an onion of the previous picture.
If we had done this using my prehistoric stop motion method it would have been ten times more painful to create, and I mean physical pain because I had to hold my body in one position in between frames, haha

KarenMusic Animated Video Response

I started the video for KarenMusic in June/July this past summer. Using Paula DiGioia's paintings, I was able to come up with a concept and some designs for the rooms within the animation. In the purple flowers room at 1:30, I used one of Paula's paintings for the background and built around it. In August I went on my yearly family vacation to New Orleans so most my materials were picked up there and the surroundings inspired me. For the palm room, I was able to pick Spanish moss right off trees in the park to use for my set. The joy of animation is the ability to work at such a slow and even pace, that elements of the project can be changed, experimented with and built upon at any time.

Despite the lack of posts, I have been very busy making things.
Over the summer I was hired to do my first full-length animation which was a very cool/stressful experience. It's being released in December but I will make sure to post it.

I also started my first full-time semester of grad school this September. It's already more than half over!

And I made these little books recently,

watercolor and ink pictures on tea stained paper

and a pastry cookbook,

40 pages of hand drawn cakes,

and ingredients/instructions typed out on an electric typewriter

School of the Future RESEARCH

This morning I carried heavy bags from Maujer Street to Monitor Street

and began a 9:30am lesson on N. American animals with Chris. We left P.S. 110 around 11:30 and I spent the rest of the day observing a lesson on taking care of pets and building a city.

I taught a class this week: the effects of pollution on pond life. Twenty-five students created newspaper filled sculptures of mutant fish. I think they had a blast. I have to give credit to my research partner, Monica Cohen, for the lesson plan.

The rest of the day was spent observing rotating activity stations. The kids would switch between 4 lessons. One focusing on sounds, another on clay sculpture and then, paper-making and bookmaking were the last of the four. This week's classes will revolve around gardening. The schedule will be up later this week.

A longgg day at School of the Future. I cleaned out an area which will be our garden. Lots of helpers came and went. By the end of the day we had installed a jungle gym, porta-potty, welcome center, and "cafeteria". Not to mention our "school" which was built in just 6 hours from plywood and nails.
